Life Lessons

Jean Becker will share lessons learned from her time spent as chief of staff for President George H. W. Bush and deputy press secretary to First Lady Barbara Bush. Becker’s keynote address will focus on themes such as finding one’s purpose and working with others in civility. Additionally, she will present her thoughts on the timely topic of working productively with others who do not share one’s same beliefs. 


Becker’s presentation will refer to various themes mentioned in her two books, Pearls of Wisdom: Little Pieces of Advice (That Go a Long Way) about First Lady Barbara Bush and, most recently, The Man I Knew: The Amazing Story of George H. W. Bush's Post-Presidency.  A book signing will follow her conference keynote presentation.

John McDonald

John McDonald is recognized as one of the national experts on safety and security. After the horrific tragedy of the school shooting at Columbine High School, McDonald made it his mission to teach and share expertise in creating school emergency management plans.


His keynote address will feature several topics that are vital to school districts, such as the role of the school board in safety and security, the importance of climate and culture within a school district, how to manage a crisis situation, and the school board’s role in garnering community support.
